WIND CHIMES

Create a delightful mobile under the guidance of Ann Marie Gentile. This simple project is suitable for any age group and is wonderfully adaptable to all shapes and textile arts. Decoration is with Kera Engobes on page 7 of our colour brochure.

We used Walkers' Earthenware.  After preparing the clay, roll out to a suitable thickness (about 5mm).  We cut the fish shapes freehand, but biscuit cutters work really well.  Remember to pierce a small hole through the shape for threading.

Allow the clay to dry thoroughly.

With a dampened soft sponge, clean the shapes free of small "daggy" pieces of clay and dust.

Apply three or four coats of Kera Engobe in the colours of your choice (see Products page) allowing each coat to dry before applying the next one. Drying time depends on the humidity, but is generally quite fast.

A design can be scratched in at this point - sgraffito effect- using a sharp tool.

Brush off dust.

When thoroughly dry, fire between 1060-1120C (cone 04-02)

Thread at various lengths with fishing line (monofilament) allowing the pieces to just touch.

We used a branch to suspend the pieces, but dowel, coat hangers, metal rods etc would do equally well.
